Productivity
Local government needs to build the capacity and capability of the workforce to achieve improvements in productivity and deliver efficiency savings. Everybody in an organisation must be involved in accomplishing the transformation necessary. The transformation is everybody's day job.
Productivity can be defined in a number of ways. Each organisation needs to decide what they want to measure and how they demonstrate evidence of it.
The following resources provide further information on achieving greater productivity:
The Local Government Group has established the Local Productivity Programme (formerly Place Based Productivity Programme) to support councils in generating further improvements in productivity.
This resource outlines the factors that impact on productivity, with a focus on workforce. It identifies the different approaches to improving productivity, and how they can be combined to create more efficient services.
These web resources provide councils with information, advice, practical tips and good practice examples on engaging better with employees in order to maintain productivity through challenging times.
A healthy workforce is a productive workforce. This research identified ten good practice case studies from councils and demonstrates what can be done in terms of health and wellbeing, and the benefits it brings to council staff and service delivery.
