  • Tackling local worklessness, rejuvenating the local government workforce... two for the price of one?

Getting people into work needs to become mainstream business for local authorities. This webcast on tacking worklessness covers a fringe session at the LGA 2009 conference at Harrogate which included the speakers Cllr Stephen Houghton from Barnsley Council and author of the Tackling Worklessness Review; Ged Fitzgerald from Lancashire County Council; Cllr Paul Carter from Kent County Council and Rob Whiteman, Chief Executive of London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

  • Culture change

In order to reflect the progressive role of local government in the 21st century, the culture within councils is set to change. To ensure success, elected members need to lead this culture change within their organisations. This video podcast outlines the work of the LGA HR Panel and explains how elected members can drive this change forward.

  • Local government workforce strategy

Workforce issues need to remain a high priority for all authorities in order to ensure that local government achieves its ambitions. This video podcast and supporting audio podcast outline some of the actions, progress and learning achieved, locally, regionally and nationally, since the Local Government Workforce Strategy 2007 was published last November.

  • Dealing with equal pay

Equal pay continues to be a really difficult issue in local government. This video podcast and supporting audio podcast outline what LGE is doing to help councils deal with the situation and includes interviews from Jan Parkinson, LGE Managing Director, Mick Brodie, Director North East Regional Employers Organisation, and Jim Savege, Corporate Director for Organisational Development, Cumbria County Council.
