  The Department of Work and Pensions has published guidance for employers on the new fit note.

• Sentencing for corporate manslaughter

  The Sentencing Guidelines Council have launched their guidance for judges on sentencing organisations convicted of corporate manslaughter on or after 15 February 2010.

• LG Employers and HSE join to focus on procurement of waste and recycling services

  LG Employers and Health and Safety Executive (HSE), together with representatives of Environmental Services Association (ESA) and local government speakers, have joined forces to promote the benefits of ensuring that health and safety performance is used as a contractor selection criterion for waste and recycling services.

• Standards for occupation health service

  Dame Carol Black, National Director for Health and Work has launched the first set of UK performance standards for occupational health services.

• Leading health and safety to improve performance

  Research undertaken over the summer by LGAAR on behalf of LGE indicates that 56 per cent of strategic managers within the local government sample are aware of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) / Institute of Directors guidance, 'Leading health and safety at work'.

  The government has launched 'Working our way to better mental health: a framework for action'. This is the first ever national strategy for mental health and work.
