• Salary sacrifice

  The LGE/LGPC has written to CLG asking for consideration to be given to an amendment to the LGPS Regulations in England and Wales to ensure that employers who wish to offer various forms of salary sacrifice arrangement (other than pension sacrifice) should not constrained in doing so by the definition of pensionable pay contained in the LGPS regulations.

• LGE/LGPC seek change to 2 year vesting period

  The LGE/LGPC has written to CLG seeking an amendment to the LGPS Regulations in England and Wales to revert back to a 2 year vesting period.

• LGE/LGPC seek change to prevent refund if member has concurrent employment

  The LGE/LGPC has written to both CLG and the SPPA seeking an amendment to the LGPS Regulations to prevent the payment of a refund if a scheme member has an ongoing concurrent employment.

  The LGA has responded to the consultation on amending the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2003 to improve the transparency of reporting of remuneration of senior officers in public bodies. The response includes comments on the need for clarity on the disclosure on an individual's pension and compensation benefits.

  LGE/LGPC has issued a response to the draft Pensions (Automatic Enrolment) Regulations 2009 and has warned the Department for Work and Pensions of the potentially serious implications for local authority budgets if the draft regulations are not amended or additional funding is not forthcoming from central government.

  In his Budget statement on 22 April 2009 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a number of changes to tax rates and allowances for taxpayers with income over £100,000.

  On 28 November 2008, CLG issued a letter and draft amendments to the LGPS Regulations 1997, to the current Benefits Regulations, Administration Regulations, Transitional Provisions Regulations and to the Discretionary Compensation Regulations. The LGPC has issued a response to the draft regulations which also covers outstanding issues / queries with the new scheme regulations and GAD guidance..

  On 27 November 2008, CLG issued a letter and draft amendments to the LGPS Regulations in England and Wales. These deal with a number of administrative aspects of the proposed cost sharing mechanism. The LGE/LGPC has issued a response to the consultation.
