Local government pensions

LGE represents employers' interests to central government and other bodies on local government pensions policy.

We provide the secretariat service for the Local Government Pensions Committee (LGPC), a committee of councillors constituted by the Local Government Association (LGA), the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA).

The LGPC provides technical advice to Pension Fund Administering Authorities and to employers on the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and on related compensation matters. We maintain a central suite of guides, booklets and publications.

A full programme of pensions training for councillors, pensions practitioners, personnel officers and other employing authority staff with an interest in the LGPS is also available.

LGE/LGPC issue response to the draft Pensions (Automatic Enrolment) Regulations 2009

LGE/LGPC has issued a response to the draft Pensions (Automatic Enrolment) Regulations 2009 and has warned the Department for Work and Pensions of the potentially serious implications for local authority budgets if the draft regulations are not amended or additional funding is not forthcoming from central government.

In his Budget statement on 22 April 2009 the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a number of changes to tax rates and allowances for taxpayers with income over £100,000.
LGPC issue response to draft LGPS (Miscellaneous) Regulations 2009.

On 28 November 2008, CLG issued a letter and draft amendments to the LGPS Regulations 1997, to the current Benefits Regulations, Administration Regulations, Transitional Provisions Regulations and to the Discretionary Compensation Regulations. The LGPC has issued a response to the draft regulations which also covers outstanding issues / queries with the new scheme regulations and GAD guidance..
LGE/LGPC issue response to CLG consultation on "Sustaining the LGPS in England and Wales".

On 27 November 2008, CLG issued a letter and draft amendments to the LGPS Regulations in England and Wales. These deal with a number of administrative aspects of the proposed cost sharing mechanism. The LGE/LGPC has issued a response to the consultation.
